Toshiba upgrades its series of portable multimedia devices with a new model - Qosmio G40. The new representative of the multimedia laptops is based on the Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 CPU with a 2.4 GHz frequency and the Intel 965 PM Express Chipset. Qosmio G40 has 2 GB RAM (PC2-5300), 400 GB hard disk space on two separate hard drives, an nVidia GeForce 8600M GT with 512 MB memory, a Bluetooth v2.0 EDR module and an adapter for new generation networks from Intel - Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AG.
The Qosmio G40 has a 17'' widescreen WUXGA display with recommended resolution of 1920×1080 dpi. This display enables video playback in 1080p/1080i format.
This new, third, generation of Toshiba laptops is also equipped with an HD DVD-R drive and 5 Dolby Home Theatre speakers. The developers state that this sound system will transport the viewer directly in the center of the action due to four Harman Kardon speakers (2 for low and 2 for high frequencies) a subwoofer and the upper mentioned Dolby Home Theater technology. The laptop has also an in-built one bit digital sound amplifier, which enables the sound to come out of the speakers without losses in quality. The SPDIF interface enables users to connect an external amplifier to create a 7.1 sound system. Qosmio G40 also supports the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) allowing connection of other external devices.
